Girls Who Code is a national non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology. The programs educate, equip, and inspire girls with the computing skills they'll need to pursue 21st century opportunities.

Small Town Startup is bringing two Girls Who Code clubs to Springfield, Tennessee! The first club is for girls grades 3-5, called Young Coders. The second club is for girls grades 6-12, called Junior Coders. All Robertson County students (including homeschooling programs) are eligible to participate.

Timeline: Clubs will meet every Tuesday from January 14, 2020 through April 28, 2020. We will not meet on March 3rd (a professional development day for Robertson County teachers and no school for students) and March 17th (spring break).

Time Commitment: Young Coders will meet every Tuesday from 4-5 pm at the Stokes Brown Library Computer Lab. Junior Coders will meet every Tuesday from 5-6 pm at the Stokes Brown Library Computer Lab. There may be minor work club members will need to complete outside of club hours.

Pitch Night: Junior Coders will end their club year with a Pitch Night, where they will reveal their project and "pitch" it to a panel of judges for an opportunity to win money and consulting to bring their project to life. The date for this is TBD, but will be within two weeks of the program ending. Young Coders and their families are welcome to attend and cheer on their older coding friends.

Cost: The cost to join Girls Who Code is free. It is, however, a commitment. We do require that club members do not miss more than two meetings throughout the duration of the club period.

Transportation: Club members' guardians are responsible for transportation to and from club meetings. Child care is not provided before or after club meetings.

Technology: Small Town Startup has partnered with Stokes Brown Library to use their computer lab for club meetings. Small Town Startup is not responsible for equipping club members with any form of technology outside of club meetings.
